About the Course

In this Leatherworking course, students will get hands-on practice with the fundamentals of working with leather (veg-tanned and suede) from start to finish.
Lessons will include:
The fundamentals of working with the material
Understanding different types of leather
Using tools
How to cut and sew by hand
Applying dyes and finishes
Tooling (carving, engraving, and stamping)
Taking measurements
Designing and making your own patterns
Repairing and maintaining leather items.

Projects may include: wallets, belts, purses/pouches, carved art pieces, and arm bracers.

*Materials and tools will be provided and used in class.

Your Instructor

QRF Education- Stephen Marts

QRF Education is run by husband and wife team, Stephen and Mackenzie Marts.

Stephen is a Cultural Resource Management Archaeologist and United States Marine Corps Veteran who has worked and studied across the United States, and in various countries around the world.
He has a Master’s Degree in Geology from Ohio University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Anthropology from University of California Riverside. His interests of further study and research are sedimentology, Southeast Asian archaeology, paleontology, and ethnozoology.
When not conducting fieldwork, Stephen creates and sells handcrafted costume and artisan items of metal, plastic, and leather.
Stephen teaches our geology, science, and leatherworking classes.

Mackenzie is a Filmmaker/Videographer specializing in Live Events, Documentary Life Stories, and Small Business Marketing. She also has passion and interest in health, history, law, and in finding all the points of connection that tie everything together.
Mackenzie teaches our social studies, history, and moviemaking classes.

Stephen and Mackenzie both enjoy long discussions about all the nerdy things, and living life with their five children.

Please note: Payment must be made, or proof of certificate must be emailed to me before the 1st day of class. There are NO Refunds once the class has started. Please contact me if payment arrangements need to be made. If you enroll after classes have begun, payment must be made, or a certificate must be submitted before attending.
