About the Course

Money, money, money! An important part of life, but how does one earn those dollars, and how do they know what can be spent on things needed versus things wanted?

In this Personal Finance course, students will explore how to be managers of their own finances, the ways they can earn money, how to budget their funds, how to start a business, and how to establish a healthy mindset about money.
Topics covered in this course will include:
~ What is Money and How does it work?
~ Earning Income and Paying Taxes
~ Making a Personal Budget
~ Types of Bank Accounts, Loans, and Credit Cards
~ Insurance
~ Long Term Financial Planning and Investments
~ Understanding financial fraud and scams
~ The Basics of Business Finances
~ And more!
Class time will include information given, group discussion and related activities.
An at-home “challenge” will be given each week to reinforce the concepts.
Optional homework worksheets will also be available.
This course will also align with the soon-to-be-implemented California High School State Standards for Personal Finance.

Your Instructor

QRF Education

QRF Education is run by husband and wife team, Stephen and Mackenzie Marts.

Stephen is a Cultural Resource Management Archaeologist and United States Marine Corps Veteran who has worked and studied across the United States, and in various countries around the world.
He has a Master’s Degree in Geology from Ohio University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Anthropology from University of California Riverside. His interests of further study and research are sedimentology, Southeast Asian archaeology, paleontology, and ethnozoology.
When not conducting fieldwork, Stephen creates and sells handcrafted costume and artisan items of metal, plastic, and leather.
Stephen teaches our geology, science, and leatherworking classes.

Mackenzie is a Filmmaker/Videographer specializing in Live Events, Documentary Life Stories, and Small Business Marketing. She also has passion and interest in health, history, law, and in finding all the points of connection that tie everything together.
Mackenzie teaches our social studies, history, and moviemaking classes.

Stephen and Mackenzie both enjoy long discussions about all the nerdy things, and living life with their five children.

Please note: Payment must be made, or proof of certificate must be emailed to me before the 1st day of class. There are NO Refunds once the class has started. Please contact me if payment arrangements need to be made. If you enroll after classes have begun, payment must be made, or a certificate must be submitted before attending.
